CollisionShop

CollisionShop is an online multimedia installation that emerged in response to a globally felt need for human connection, intimacy, and joy during isolation.

For the project’s first phase in March 2021, performers and non-performers around the world were invited to record themselves following audio instructions designed to get them moving in a carefree way. In May 2021, the second phase of the project presented a website installation of the submitted dances, allowing visitors to view performances side by side. Visitors can choose to see randomized duets of performers who had never met before, or to curate their own duet by filtering submissions based on a range of factors like age, zodiac signs, and more.

The randomized version of the site was also livestreamed into synchronized physical installations around the world. Locations included MIT’s campus (Cambridge, MA), The Invisible Dog (Brooklyn, NY), Art Lords Gallery (Kabul, Afghanistan), and Art Spaces-Dance (Katowice, Poland).
